Brno Quiz

EuroCarto has always been closely tied to Vienna. This year, however, the conference moves to Brno – a city with a long and interconnected history with the Austrian capital. Brno is sometimes called „little Vienna“: its architecture and urban development bear strong Viennese influences, from the ring road inspired by the Ringstrasse to buildings designed by architects who worked in both cities.

This connection inspired us to create a small atlas that introduces our host city beyond its familiar landmarks. Brno is not merely, as spiteful tongues like to claim, „an inhabited bend on the road to Vienna“, but a dynamic student city shaped by a turbulent history and profound changes over the past century.

Across ten stops, Atlas ObsKura explores stories that have shaped modern Brno – from the birth of Czechoslovakia and Jewish industrial entrepreneurs to motor racing connecting East and West during the socialist era and today’s urban transformation. The rest is for you to discover.

Each location comes with a quiz question or task, with points awarded according to difficulty and effort. Open the online map, choose a place and set out on foot or by public transport. At each stop, discover its story and follow the link to submit your answer.
