Brno

Brno is a vibrant university city in the Czech Republic – in the heart of Europe, perfectly placed between Vienna and Prague. Fast cross-border and domestic rail connections make it easy to reach: direct trains link Brno to Vienna (≈ 1 h 30–40 min) and Prague (≈ 2 h 30–40 min) several times a day. Brno’s compact center is walkable and supported by an excellent tram and bus network.

City highlights

  • Modernist icon: Villa Tugendhat (Mies van der Rohe) is Brno’s UNESCO World Heritage site and a global landmark of functionalist architecture. Tours book out well in advance.
  • Mendel’s legacy: Gregor Johann Mendel conducted his groundbreaking genetics research at the Augustinian Abbey, today home to the Mendel Museum and an active program celebrating his work. Galadinner will take place there.
  • Špilberk Castle & Park: A hilltop fortress with panoramic views, exhibition spaces, and tree-lined paths for an easy pre- or post-session stroll.
  • Brno Underground: Explore the Labyrinth under the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh) and the historic ossuary at St. James—atmospheric and right in the center.
  • Brno Reservoir & Veveří Castle: A quick tram ride takes you to the lakeside; in season, boats run up to the castle for a relaxed half-day escape.

  • Easy exploring: Cafés, galleries, and university life give the city a youthful feel; most venues cluster within a short walk or tram ride of the center.

Conference Venue

The main conference will take place in the Faculty of Science aula on the Kotlářská campus.

Pre-conference Workshops

Most workshop will be held on the same place as the main conference – Masaryk Univeristy campus. Moreover, one of the workshops will be at the Moravian Library (Moravská zemská knihovna)—both within comfortable walking distance from the main conference venue.

Opening Ceremony & Ice-breaker

Gala Dinner

Garden of the Augustinian Abbey (Augustiniánské opatství)
